Austin's rooftop pool scene punches above its size. The best ones have views of the lake, the Capitol, or the Congress Avenue corridor — and most are warm enough year-round to use on a January whim.
WET deck is the W's branded pool scene, four floors up above the 2nd Street District — a real deck with cabanas, tanning shelves and a fireplace rather than a token plunge. DJs run Memorial Day to Labor Day; outside that stretch it is a considerably quieter afternoon.
Named for the songwriter, and the hotel carries the music-city energy well — though the live music is downstairs at Geraldine's, not poolside. The 4th-floor deck looks out over Lady Bird Lake, with Rainey Street humming below without intruding.
Kelly Wearstler designed the hotel and it shows — the 5th-floor rooftop pool is saltwater, framed like a set piece, and it is a very good one. La Piscina handles the bar. Guests and weekday Proper Club members only; no day passes.
The adults-only value pick downtown — a 5th-floor resort-style deck with cabanas, an outdoor fireplace and a view over Rainey Street, plus day passes from $35 when the bigger properties are full. The rooftop bar, Limestone, is eleven floors further up.
