New OrleansRooftop Pool Hotels

New Orleans doesn't do rooftop pools the way other cities do — the city is at sea level, the architecture runs low and lateral, and the pleasure principle here is horizontal, not vertical. But the two that make the list are genuinely excellent.

Two pools, no argument.

New Orleans has just two rooftop pools worth recommending. We picked both. The city compensates by making the bars better than they need to be.

The Barnett

The old Ace, reborn as The Barnett — and the rooftop was rebuilt with it, now High Five Rooftop Pool & Bar nine floors above the Warehouse District. Sweeping downtown views, a proper bar, and a pool that runs on New Orleans weather rather than a calendar.

Virgin Hotels New Orleans

The Pool Club is the most sociable rooftop in the Warehouse District — heated, downtown skyline filling the view, and programming most afternoons. Worth knowing before you go: a day pass buys you the water, not a lounger. Poolside seating is reserved for hotel guests.
